It's odd that you say that since Microsoft once had their own storefront that they could have done the exact same thing (and more).  Hmmm...

They've been closing many Microsoft store here in Canada. This deal is not Gamestop coming in to save Microsoft, it's Microsoft coming in and saving Gamestop from bankruptcy. You've probably haven't heard that Microsoft bought Zenimax for 7.5Billion. Microsoft is fully committed to its gaming division. Microsoft really wants to push Xbox Gamepass Ultimate. This deal is a perfect deal for reaching casual gamers. How many Nintendo and Playstation customers go into a Microsoft store to buy their game? Every game that is free on game pass could have a sticker on it in the store. There many people that don't like using their credit card to buy games digitally but they could go into Gamestop and buy a digital license to every game that's on the Xbox game store and pay cash. Microsoft is probably going to take over 50% of the retail space at every GameStop. They can put all Xbox products front and center.
