Call me confused.  The first bolded title is 2D and the second bolded title is currently the highest selling 3D platformer, correct?

According to Wikipedia, New Super Mario Bros is 2.5D. So, we round it up to 3D.

 

 

While the graphics may be 3D, the gameplay is 2D.  I may be in the minority, but I define my 2D/3D platformers by the number of directions I can travel in.

Also SM64 is the highest selling 3D platformer, but certainly not the highest selling platformer overall.
