I really don't get this kinda talk.
Ok. if nothing else, we can say that from May 2014, the XB1 and PS4 were the same price. That's 6 months into the generation. Then from January 2015, the XB1 ha one kinda promotion or the other keeping it selling at a price under $399. Then in June 2016, XB1s was introduced at the $299 price. The PS4 did not hit $299 till September 2016. Its really n secret (unless you have been living under a rock) that all of this gene MS has been by far more aggressive with their pricing than sony.
This thing about "once someone buys xyz its hard buying anything else" is just nonsense. Particularly because it contradicts itself. Both consoles released at the same time both were $400 from May 2014. So what stopped XB1 from selling 100M consoles over the next 6 years that followed? Surely in that time sony hadn't sold up to 100M consoles right? So it means that from May 2014, when sony hadn't even got to 10M sales, there were well over 130M opportunities for MS to sell Xboxs to. 130Mpeople that hadn't yet bought either an Xbox or a PS4.
Its not like sony sold 110M consoles overnight and then MS had to convince 50M PS4 owners to also buy an Xbox over the last 7 years.
And other things to consider here. PS3 launched a year after the 360 and cost at least $200 more. It still ended up outselling the 360. So that means things can be turned around in a generation. And as bad as the XB1 has done,it is still only like 6/7M units behind the PS4. So its at least doing well somewhere.
I hope MS figures this out eventually, because its clear to me that fans of their platform haven't. What sells consoles are games. Games. Games and games. What makes people buy one console that shares 95% of a library over another, are exclusive games to that platform. I find it shocking how something this simple and obvious is so overlooked. Halo, gears and forza. That's the best MS had to offer all of this current-gen. Those were their tent pole titles. And we got what? 2 gears, 4 halos, and 6 forza... that right there, is the problem.
