The unconditional love you get from a pet is cathartic. Caring for a pet requires time and effort, but what you get in return can really be good for you.

If I didn't have my pets, job and hobbies, I'd probably go insane myself. A coworker asked me if I was depressed once, my only response was I'm too busy for that. I can't even say I get bored anymore, I have more things I'd like to do than time.

That's a good point, keeping yourself busy can cure or help with depression. When I get bored I take a class on udemy to learn new skills for fun.

I use YouTube for educational content, I listen to audio books which include Great Courses lectures, and I have many books I am slowly going through. Getting into fitness and fasting was a real game changer in how I feel physically and being more healthy. I even compiled a massive list of classic books, movies and TV shows I want to consume. So again, I just keep busy to the point that free time is a pleasure. I feel like I would have been much happier years ago had I embraced more hobbies.

Given we are on a gaming forum I guess I should also stress I love video games but I greatly reduced my time with them. It happened naturally, I've been getting more satisfaction with other hobbies. I think gaming is good, but maybe people should do less and try more things.
