Haha, for me it was actually the film was better because of the game.

When the film came out, I was impressed with Sean Bean, but Brosnan was more like... "Why is the pompous jackass from Mrs. Doubtfire playing Bond?" and wrote him off as a cheap Dalton replacement. I mean, I didn't think GE007 was a terrible film, just not what I was expecting for the Bond comeback, and still preferred License to Kill and Living Daylights.

But yeah, I became a MUCH bigger GE film fan after the game. For a bit it became my favourite Bond film.
