Reminds me of when Sony removed PS2 emulation (software) from PS3 and Linux support. Sucks when it happens.

Sadly not much you can do about it since you agreed to T&C when first booting in and updating a console.

Sony never removed PS2 emulation on PS3 fat models, they just stopped selling PS2-compatible PS3 models.

Since they never promised PS2-BC for PS3 Slims, they had no problem regarding BC.

Otherwise the shitstorm would have been much bigger than from the tiny group of Linux fans.

There was software emulation on the PS3. It came with 80GB Metal Gear Solid model - before it got removed with updates.

PS3 can be been hacked with homebrew installed to re enable it (not going to link that). It wasn't well known enough due to it being a limited run console. A non hardware based PS3 is capable of PS2 emulation.
