Could be a change in reporting methods. While not relevant for the software top 20, NPD changed a general metric (video game software became video game content, second paragraph in the article).

Maybe the software top 20 previously included microtransactions, but now doesn't anymore. If that was the case, then it would hit GTA V significantly on a revenue-based chart.

Yeah you'd have to think it was something like this, though all previous months have clearly listed that the revenue is based on full game sales only, same as this month.

Red Dead Redemption 2 has suffered the same fate.

GTA May RDR May GTA June RDR June GTA July RDR July
Top 20 2 6 4 6 ? ?
Top 10 PS4 2 10 3 9 ? ?
Top 10 XBO 2 ? 2 ? ? ?

For GTA V and RDR 2 to both completely drop out of the top 20 and top 10 for each platform this month is bizarre to say the least.

GTA V was the third best selling game on PSN for July 2020, you'd think with that it should be in the top 10 PS4 games.

No idea what's going on tbh.

It's almost like this month they forgot Take 2 exist. Last month they had 4 games in top 20. (GTA V, RDR2, NBA 2K and Borderlands 3) this month they have 0.

Take 2 are completely missing from the top 20 and the top 10 for each platform.
