It's not even remotely short sighted, because some of us don't want to let a Trojan horse inside our space. You seem to think Epic will stop acting hostile when things are "open". So when are games going to get vastly cheaper?, they promised this when they first entered the ring in a "serious" manner, and that still has yet to happen.
When are we going to see a truly open network, that isn't just going to be run by Epic?.
Mankind, in its arrogance and self-delusion, must believe they are the mirrors to God in both their image and their power. If something shatters that mirror, then it must be totally destroyed.
