Billions for the industry, we're specifically talking about Sony here. Selling the physical PS5 for $499 is probably still a pretty big loss. The lack of disc drive probably saves them like $20 maximum. Adding a further $180 of losses just so they can invest into the future doesn't sound very smart to me.
$100 lower is still a bigger loss but that's covered by everything being on PSN.
