And it's getting bad for a lot of places now too. South Africa suddenly has the 6th highest number of cases in the world. Go back 1 month and they weren't even close to being on our charts at all. Colombia has come from nowhere and moved onto the death charts and will be on the case chart in 2 days. The No Active Cases chart has dropped from 29 to 14. |
Things are bad in South Africa.
Their health system was already near run down and collapsed, before the coronavirus.
Theres now lack of ppe, lack of medicin, lack of oxygen, lack of workers (nurses/doctors).
from the mirror.uk :
"Nurses have been acting at cleaners at overstretched hospitals where unborn babies have reportedly died in understaffed maternity wards."
"Livingstone and Dora Nginza hospitals in Port Elizabeth, South Africa has been enduring an increasingly severe staff shortage "
"The impact on the Eastern Cape city of Port Elizabeth, where only two infectious disease doctors care for seven million people in the broader district, has been devastating."
"The main Covid-19 hospital, Livingstone, has come to resemble scenes "like a war zone""
"Blood and other medical waste has been spilled over surfaces and not cleaned up."
"Patient welfare has also been badly impacted by a shortage of ambulances, no ventilation and a lack of oxygen. In one particularly grim photo taken at Livingstone rats can be seen drinking what is presumably human blood from a drain."
"...reports that patients had been "fighting for oxygen" supplies in a ward at Livingstone Hospital in Port Elizabeth."
When you dont have staff, so giveing child birth is killing mothers and their babies.
Something that wouldn't have happended before corona virus.
You have sick people that need oxygen masks/tanks, and have them and their familes, fighting others, for air!
