The price of the console is not the issue about getting a discless edition of a console. The issues are the price of games, the lack of resale option for games, and the lack of certainty about games being playable even on future consoles (i.e. whether future consoles have backwards compatability). To elaborate:

  • Digital games are still way too expensive. During the 7th generation, there were actually some pretty good deals, albeit rarely. During the 8th generation, I've at best looked at a deal and thought it was actually decent. Not once have I thought I've seen a good deal (without PS+ at least). If that's anything to go by, I definitely don't want an all-digital future on consoles.
  • I'm not one to usually sell the games I get, but not even being able to do so really hurts value in my eyes.
  • While I do play mainly fairly recent games, it's also not at all rare for me to play some older games. To this day, I still play PS3 games (and would play even more of them if I had my controllers in better shape), and I've also had urges to play PS2 games. Unfortunately playing PS2 games is a fairly big pain because I don't have a PS2 hooked up because there's no room for it. On the other hand, I have occasionally played PS1 games because I can do it on PS3.

So yeah, in this light, I'm not going all-digital on consoles for any price.
