With game development in general taking 3 to 5 years and also that it take some iterations to make better use of the HW having a cycle of 4 years wouldn't be good imho.

I guess. I just don't like them splitting the fanbase like that. Its usually not that bad to have the first iteration, but then a game like Control comes around and reminds you that you have the inferior version.
