The way social media is present today means having system reveals like 6+ months beforehand don't make as much sense as they used to.
You can reveal in August quite easily and launch in November, it's not a big deal. Apple doesn't reveal anything until like a week before launch, this has become the accepted norm.
In the 2000s, pre-Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc. etc. it was different.
