I think it's quite visible that Steam was never my first platform of choice. I first used Impulse (back when it was still Stardock and not Gamestop) and then GOG, with Steam mostly just coming due to free Steam game codes in my gaming magazines and due to Kickstarter. I use it much more these days, but back then, I just hopped in because I didn't have much of an alternative.
