Yes, they had a fantastic hand that involved defective consoles appearing to eliminate any advantage they had and a console that ran a longer life cycle and rode on the back of the highest sales margin of the previous generation.
MS doing what it did was pretty much proof that if MS was even a bit serious, there wouldn't be a war and just carnage. They could literally money bomb their way to victory, but investors would hate the CEO for it.
