Around this time period before the ps4 launched people were saying the the ps3 will easily pass 100 million and pass the Wii, and the ps3 got a lot of support after the ps4 launched. Not saying it won't happen, but I don't think it's a safe bet.

Last Official price cut for PS3 was on September 2012 with the introduction of super slim model at $269.99, The Ps4 launched on November 2013 at $399.99, a difference of only $130.

If the rumors are true, Ps5 will possibly launch at $499.
This time the difference in price between PS4 and PS5 will be bigger and COULD possibly lead to different results.

But again, this is only an assumption!!
