I was considering getting a new graphics card last summer, and while I still haven't exactly got much real need due to the games I've played recently, my GTX 770 is that the risk of running into something it runs poorly is getting greater and greater. Thus getting a new one is sounding quite appealing right now. I really hope RTX 3060 is going to be priced similarly to RTX 2060 (or lower), otherwise the decision's going to be between RTX 2060 and RTX 3050 or whatever...

A 770? You've squeezed that card to its fullest!

I think that, right now, it could be better to just wait until next gen consoles launch, see what's the min. req. card recommended for the new games, and get a card one tier above that.

After all, the only new game coming this year that will put our cards to shame is Cyberpunk 2077. We can wait a bit to see what we'll be dealing with in the coming years.

Well, I haven't played too many recently released demanding games, which helps a lot. The main reason I was considering getting a new one was last year's Total War: Three Kingdoms, but it run just fine on my current one so I didn't. I'm sure I could have got better graphics with a new card but I was happy enough anyway. Beyond that, Black Mesa, Crash Bandicoot: N. Sane Trilogy, and Metal Gear Solid V are among the most demanding games I've played in the last few years... Not all that demanding by today's standards, eh? Oh, and I suppose there's a tiny bit of Hitman as well, but again, not too demanding I guess. I have more on my backlog but never high enough on the list so far.

So yeah, it's been fairly easy to get by with GTX 770 so far. I've been tempted several times but always I've put it off due to lack of actual need.

Considering I got the GTX 770 in 2014, the year after the console generation launched, and it has lasted until now, I suppose waiting for a year might be wise since then I would be in a similar situation, and I also expect ray tracing to be quite a bit more mature in graphics cards by then. That said, I'm fairly tempted already and I don't consider getting a new card again in a few years a problem, so I might not wait anyway. Good advise though!
