Nintendo fanboys always make excuses when other systems sell well. Isn't it possible that it was just an amazing system with a great library of games? And by saying "most," you're implying that the majority of people bought the PS2 as a cheap DVD player. Are you really suggesting that 60 million or more people worldwide bought the PS2 for a DVD player and nothing else?

Hell, I don't know pricing history, but I'm sure that by the time the PS2 was in large enough stock for people to buy it just to use it as a DVD player, normal players were probably cheaper.

Poor excuse. A great system sold well. People weren't buying replacements, nor DVD players.

Um sorry but last gen was my the ps2 was my favorite console. But the sad thing is I'm telling the truth. Most of the ps2s bought by non gamers were used as dvd players. ALso seeing as sony heavly advertised it as a dvd player I would say that it probably did sell for that reason in its early years. I may have been wrong with most, but I'm saying alot of the casuals weren't really casual, but didn't play games at all.

Here's what I just read in your link:

"Six percent for DVD movies only"

Now of course, a large percentage of people, according to the article, bought it for games AND a DVD player. But really, why not choose that option? DVDs were a new technology, and that should be a lot of people's reason if it's just more motivation to buy the system. As a matter of fact, the article even says that 52% of people were using their new PS2s to play games,  which probably became an even greater percentage as the amount of games increased and diversified.

Rubang: Hey, that's cool. I'm just waiting to see an M rated game sell more than 17 million on the Wii.

Scottie: Kid Icarus isn't among the games Rubang listed, and also I said "a bunch," not all. Games like Excite Truck, Zack & Wiki, and perhaps Boom Blox are unlikely to see sequels.
