Those would be my two choices. Brad will attack me for this, but Legend of Dragoon is no classic. The game was pedestrianly received during its hey day, and it still boggles my mind that it gained a loud cult following in the following decades lol

THIS! Touted as a "Final Fantasy Killer" I was really underwhelmed by everything except the graphics and music. Most of all, the story and characters. Translation was appalling. But hey, if others enjoyed it, that's great...I just wonder how many younger people just heard it was good and latched on to that.

Yes, I agree. The game had high production values, but it was lacking in several areas, including story, and a terrible Overworld design. The  combat was okay. I felt it was an average RPG with a great coat of paint. Inspired mostly by FF sales, than by what actually made FF great. I remember EGM, one of the reviewers even handed he game a 5.5 score. It was really an average JRPG at the time, this was further reinforced by contemporary releases of Chrono Cross and FFIX. I feel most of its fans never really got to play most of the RPGs of the era.
