Monolith Soft is not Nintendo though (in the sense that they don't actively decide the names of their projects)

You made a big mistake here, even "Xenoblade" was the name which Nintendo did choose, not Monolith Soft. Original, Monolith called it: Monado - The Beginning of The World, but Nintendo disagreed then told them to change it to Xenoblade. Everything needs Nintendo's approval.
