That's just launch though. The gen wasn't a lost cause in 2014 or 2015. MS could have comeback as unlikely as it is.

Xbox One had more price cuts, revisions, and deals than the PS4 had in its lifetime. MS has turned things around tremendously since the DRM fiasco including de-bundling Kinect and permanent price drops for the XOne. They won a few NPD's in 2015. You're telling me that MS couldn't be competitive 2016 on? MS can't expand in the territories where they're non - existent or not available? All because of a PR blunder that happened in 2013? Sounds like an excuse.

If we swapped scenarios, XOne wouldn't have out sold PS4 as much as the PS4 outsold the XOne currently, because Sony has compelling software like Uncharted 4, God of War, Horizon & Spiderman that moved hardware and sold 10+ Million units (which is being conservative), they have a global reach, and simply a bigger brand in gaming. PS4 would have come back just like the PS3 did. Brand power is a big reason why Xbox at the same price can't outsell a PlayStation at the same price outside of a few regions.

Xbox revisions wasn't just redesigning the console. They basically started again with closing down studios and started from new during a generation. That took a hit on the games front which meant that they couldn't get the games out like they could with the 360. Hence the lack of 1st party games. Sony didn't have to change much, their console circle continued as planned. Both the Xbox and PS have brand power, however we cannot compare the two the same as the start of this generation was one tripping up while the other was at full speed. If the X1 came out like the 360 than this gen would have been more neck and neck. The fact the WiiU flopped also added a bigger buyers choice to the PS4 adding in two audiences of customers rather than just one.
