So... only PS4 backwards compatibility. Well, I guess that settles it. Series X it is.

Also, they shouldn't have advertised this for everyone. This was so technical and so boring... what they were thinking?

Just to be clear, PS5 will have PS4 backwards compat at a hardware mode level.  Whereas pretty sure the xbox plan is BC at the software emulation level.

Was anyone seriously thinking BC beyond previous gen, like seriously?

Honestly, I don't give a damn about how they achieve the compatibility. Emulation or native, I don't care. I just want to be able to have a PS2 disk and play it on a PS5. If I have do copy or download the game on the SSD, that is almost a non issue for me (although granted, it would be better if it played directly from the disk).

Why wouldn't I think of this possibility? PS5 can run any previous PS console with its dick. It's not some kind of impossible or titanic effort. It's even almost too easy: PS1 and PS2 could run on an emulator just with brute force (an emulator they already created for the PS1 Classic and the PS2 titles for PS4 on the Store). PS3 is the only problematic one because thanks to it being weird as fuck, there is still not a good emulator for it. But that's pretty much the only thing they had to work on: a PS3 emulator. Being made by Sony themselves, the ones who know the machine better than anyone, it doesn't even seem that hard. And PS4 is compatible natively, so no problems here.

So yeah... it's something perfectly expectable.
