Yep, hit the nail on the head.  FFVII has a huge amount of nostalgia and the game is getting a giant free pass from many.  Gameplay altering MTX is a shitty practice, plain and simple.  I don't care what game (or developer), I don't like it.

Except people are ripping into this game any chance they get. In essentially every single thread since 2015.
And if Monolith remade the game with FF7R's fidelity and made it multiple parts, there would also be people cautiously optimistic about it, along with the ones constantly ripping on it.
Secondly, who is giving it a free pass?

Instead of highfiving comments that add nothing to the discussion and throwing shade at others, you could make a more constructive argument. And since you started one with me (the "essential" comment was clearly aimed at me), you have the opportunity.

I also enjoy a mod telling me to be respectful, but yet is telling myself (and many others) that our opinions/feelings/thoughts are wrong.  Great stuff.  I wonder why so many people don't post much anymore.

I mean first and foremost, I don't have to convince somebody to agree with me in order to validate my opinion.  Last I checked I am entitled to my opinion.  Secondly, can't change a person's mind when their mind is already 100% made up.

?
You can agree or disagree in a respectful manner.
That's not saying that anyone's opinions are wrong any more than your initial statement was telling others that they are wrong.

When you make a statement, at least be prepared to explain your mindset.
That has nothing to do with changing your mind. Though if you're not even open to the possibility of learning something, then it may be because you react like this instead of answering. Lashing out for no reason, dodging questions and claiming that someone is trying to change their mind before even explaining their position is typical behavior of someone who realized they don't want to explain it. You made a strong statement about monetization of gameplay elements under any circumstance, but it looks like you didn't think that comment through. If that's incorrect, you're free to explain why, and I won't lash out unprovoked, dodge your questions or claim you're trying to change my mind.

And I wonder what's more effective at putting people off from posting?
Constructive arguments in a respectful manner, or making toxic drive-by comments?

And refrain from doing that, either of you. If you want to call someone out for something, either tag/quote them and/or do it in a constructive manner. Trying to rile people up with generalizations and miss-characterizations in drive-by posts is not ok.

I have thought it through, you simply don't like my opinion and won't stop asking for more justification, despite the fact I have justified my stance just fine.  MTX that affects gameplay (e.g. summon materia) is a slippery slope.  It allows the developer to adjust difficulty settings (either directly or with optional bosses) that will encourage having to pay to win.  I find that offensive as a gamer and especially as a parent.  I don't need my kids requesting candy bars so they can take down an optional boss.  A game should be balanced from day 1 after dropping $60.  Encouraging the purchase of MTX to alter gameplay is a giant no.

And since we are discussing "constructive" posts, do you really think telling people (as a mod no less) that their posts are not well thought out is constructive?  Fact is you have done nothing but dismiss the opinions of others, based on nothing more than not aligning with your feelings.

Zelda and Souls are my two favorite franchises.  All I know is if Nintendo starting selling heart containers separately or From starting selling summons separately, I would be pissed.  I wouldn't defend the practice.

Edit

And yes I would pay more than $60 for a top notch game.  In fact I did so all the time back on the SNES days with IV, VI, Mana, Evermore and Trigger.  Same with N64 titles.  MTX can go die, same with most DLC.  Just sell me a final product that is balanced at an appropriate price.
