If it ends up being a console? The hell is that supposed to mean?

It means we have no idea what Nintendo's plans are or if they will attempt a direct Switch successor, Nintendo does it's own thing.

Of course sales will decline. So what? It simply doesn't make sense to release a reduntant MK9 on switch. It's efficiency will be maximized as a launch tittle for the switch 2. The impact of a brand new MK at the switch 2's launch would be greatly diminished by a redundant brand new MK releasing 2 years prior.

Redundant? Doubtful. I would imagine the fervor for a sequel would be a priority from those who already purchased Mario Kart 8.

Mario Kart 8 has been around for a long time, it's old, I am bored of it. Give me something new.

Another MK now and then another for the next system makes more money.

No, it doesn't. It's completely redundant with the MK already out on the system and burns interest in the franchise for the next console. It wouldn't sell like a brand new MK and would hinder the sales of the following one.

It might even sell better. You just don't know... Especially if it rates higher critically.
