Nintendo isn't going to follow that model.  And we're all happy about it.

Then why'd you bring it up?

It's still selling well, despite slowing sales. - But the announcement for the sequel came 9~ months ago.

And? I don't see your point.

Well, if it gives a fervor for people to rush over and buy a Switch... I would argue the opposite.

People are already rushing to buy a Switch.  Using it as a launch title for the Switch's successor is much more valuable than nominally goosing the sales of a console selling 20 million units a year already.

Business sense means whatever makes the most money, and Mario Kart sells more than basically everything else. To make another game when you could have made Mario Kart means you're not making as much money as you could. That's definitely not good business sense. I very obviously am not saying Nintendo should only make Mario Kart games so don't even try to go there!

These arbitrary rules, excuses, and assumptions to say otherwise like cannibalizing and "but it's a kart racer so it wont be that new" are definitely not coming from a business perspective. Such things are irrelevant, only sales matter. Thus the comparison with BotW is totally accurate as they're both big sellers who's sales demand a sequel both to please the fans and Nintendo's wallet.

MK8D on switch and MK9 as a launch tittle for the switch 2 is what makes the most money for the franchise.

Mario Kart 8's sales might decline before Switch 2 is out, if that ends up even being a console.

If it ends up being a console? The hell is that supposed to mean?

Of course sales will decline. So what? It simply doesn't make sense to release a reduntant MK9 on switch. It's efficiency will be maximized as a launch tittle for the switch 2. The impact of a brand new MK at the switch 2's launch would be greatly diminished by a redundant brand new MK releasing 2 years prior.
