If Nintendo were to launch a Mario Kart game this year, it would sell great, but holding off until 2023 means the launch of their next console will be a guaranteed immediate success.

* Nintendo can still release Mario Kart 10 for next-gen if they released a Mario Kart 9 now.
* Mario Kart 9 can reuse Mario Kart 8's assets.

Breath of the Wild is still selling fantastically, but even with good sales, Nintendo announced a sequel.

What you can do for one, you can do for the other.

Of course they can. But they won't because because it makes no business sense.
