Yea those hammers were a good addition.  I didn't use much in town but I loved that hammer mini game where you tried to whack that car as much as possible.  Key was getting in front of it so you could get least 2-4 good smacks in till it pushed you to the side.  Then when it falls over start nailing it like crazy.

Yes I used those tactics. Get in front of it, let it push you along as you turn to face it, then get 3 or 4 hits in. It was also good fun with 4 players trying to ambush each other too.
