A logo is not here to amuse or surprise you, it serves a branding purpose. Sony wants to stay crystal clear about their product so that everyone knows this is the the next iteration of their popular console and not something else. If it ain't broke, don't fix it.
For example, you don't see Apple changing their logo for each new product, that's because people are expecting their familiar and precious logo to appear on all of their products.
