So you concede that they indirectly competed. If Wii and PS3 didn't compete directly, does that mean DS didn't compete directly with PSP either? |
Sure I do. Besides there being some overlap between owners of PS360 and Wii they were in similar market and could be considered "replacement" of one another (like if the current solution your supplier gives isn't good anymore you look for a similar product, so they don't directly compete as you wouldn't change if not for that supplier stop meeting your need).
Can't say for sure how much direct/indirect competition DS and PSP had because I haven't analysed much. But considering DS broke record for Nintendo while PSP at the same time sold close to what the other best HH from Nintendo had before and after DS I would say they had indirect competition. Easy to see that when PSVita plummeted (80M to 15M gen over gen) 3DS didn't skyrocket, it in fact also shrink similar raw number (but less than 50% in relative number). So from evidence I can gather from memory I would say that even on portable DS/3DS and PSP/PSvita didn't directly compete.
Summarizing, when your core consumer isn't the same you don't really directly compete. Entry level car from FIAT and VW directly compete, but even though Ferrari is also a car it doesn't directly compete with Golf because the customer for both is different.

We should completely ignore something that isn't true, yes. |
If you want to believe Wii directly competed with PS360 ok do it. Now go and do the doomsayer after analysis that gen 8th shrunk by like 100M.
