So, your main argument is all about sales. I think that those people who got so called upgrade consoles and willing to spend money on them will disagree with your point about these consoles being unneeded investments from console maker's side. I think that all those people who upgraded from PS4 to Pro, from Xbox One to X and from 3DS to N3DS are quite happy that they have a choice to buy a better hardware.

As pointed out N3DS variant is the only available model of 3DS so ofcourse it'll be the model of choice this goes against the point he's trying to make on having multiple models on the market also show us how well having a X1X model has impacted its position in the market with the competition go on

Right now those people you and him are on about barely make any difference to the outcome of the market in the long run which is the whole point.

Well, this kinda shows that you seem to be caring more about companies rather than consumers (gamers). All the so-called upgraded consoles are a benefit to the consumers. You tend to use X1X as an example of "unneeded" SKU. Of course it didn't have a huge impact on overall console sales performance, but I doubt that any person who bought it will say it was "unneeded". The same can be applied even to Switch Lite maybe. The original Switch SKU is still the best selling by a lot even despite being more expensive. So, judging by your logic - Switch Lite was unneeded SKU. Because it didn't really have a huge impact on Nintendo's position on the market. Switch would have been extremely successful even without it. But, Switch Lite still exists, because choices. And yeah, N3DS wasn't the only available model of 3DS when it came out. 2DS was selling alongside it which was basically a core 3DS in a different form factor. Then, they were both simultaneously  replaced by New 2DS - the latest model which is a 3DS-like form factor but without 3D.
