Why does this feel about as hollow as a win by the Cincinnati Bengals this season? |
He'll be acquitted along party lines. Mitch and Lindsey should recuse themselves, but they won't. Even if they did the right thing it'd be an uphill battle. The current Senate would acquit him even if Trump had a credible accusation of murder against him that would easily win in a criminal courtroom. If Nixon had had McConnell and Graham and the rest of the current Senate instead of the one that was in place in 1974, he'd have never resigned. And there are two at least vulnerable Democratic Senators - Joe Manchin (D-WV) and Doug Jones (D-AL), the latter of whom barely squeaked out a special election victory against a man accused of messing with underage girls even among those Republicans who believed the allegations, including Alabama's governor - who will likely cross party lines and vote to acquit
