If games focus on game play the clichés don’t matter. You start noticing the clichés when the game play is shallow.

Take BotW for example, it has the cliché lf clichés but a lot of people (me included) spent a lot of time playing that game because the game play is superb.

Nah, quite the contrary in my opinion. I'm always looking for a good and impactful story. Just mashing buttons for silly effects doesn't really do anything for me.

Unlike ”story driven” games that basically only are a series of qte: press X for the next cut scene.
