26. Donkey Kong 64
First Played: 1999
Times Completed: 3
Not quite the followup to the DKC trilogy that I had hoped for, but this game is certainly good enough and more closely resembles Banjo Kazooie or Mario 64. Even aspects that frustrated me initially, like the reuse of mini games, doesn’t bother me anymore and I enjoy most of them. Exploration is very important in collectathons and Dk64 has large levels and some specific sections for the 5 different Kongs. As a testament to how much I enjoy playing this game, I even completed it on Wii U, with the barely functioning analog implementation that N64 games suffer from on that console. The music is good, even if not up to DKC standards and the DK Isles music always reminded me of FFVII’s overworld theme.
