I've been using VR since Rift dev kit 2. Astrobot is the best VR game I've played.  PSVR does a great job with it.

PSVR does not do a good job in theatre mode.  The screen door effect ruins the experience.  I've never watched a movie in the higher-end units.  But, I'm skeptical that even those are good enough for movies right now.  But, I agree that this is theoretically a good use of VR.  The tech just isn't there yet.

As I've mentioned other times on VGC, the coolest experience I've had in VR was watching a live boxing match on my Samsung Gear VR.  I felt like I was sitting in the front row.  That experience convinced me that VR will be a great way to experience sporting events.  However, due to resolution and screen door effect limitations, even high end VR only works for things that take place in a very small area right now.  Basketball will be good soon, I think.  But, we're a good ways from being able to follow a baseball game or golf in VR.  Those sports currently look terrible.  The time will come though that we'll all be sitting behind home plate, courtside, and on the 50 yard line.

Oculus Go isn't even high end, it's a standalone mobile device and it does a way better job that the high end devices for watching video content. So much better in fact you can barely see the SDE and have to actually look for it. I think it's 149 on sale at this point.

I have not used Oculus Go.  Maybe I'll pick one up at some point.  But, do you know if Quest is also good with video?  If so, I might rather go that route.
