People, in the 10s of millions, are choosing the DS4 over all of them when they need another controller, either for a 2nd player or because it broke. This is a conscious choice.
As much as Xbox fans and sometimes Nintendo fans (only when Nintendo doesn't choose symmetrical) may not like to admit it, symmetrical is the preferred controller. Or, best case scenario, people really just don't give a shit and will adapt to whichever.
