I think they will announce the price cut to $199 for SLIM 1 TB and $299 for Pro 1 TB when they announce PS5 in February.

That would be a good point to do it.  Announce it in Feb, but drop it after the FY, which could lead to them predicting shipments being flat for next FY, or just slightly down.  All I know is that they have to be making a killing on HW sales.  They probably make a small profit with the $199 BF deals, but they have been selling it for $299 for almost 3 year, now.  Maybe storing up profits since they are going to take a decent sized loss ($100-$150) on PS5 HW.

Looks like i was right in saying they overshipped last quarter (Q1-flat, Q2-down ~28%).

With that said, these are still great numbers, over 100 million hardware and over 1 billion software is a huge achievement and their subscription services are showing solid growth.

Not sure I entirely agree.

SW was also flat/ up YoY for the PS4 in Q1. But Q2 saw a drastic drop (-18%) in SW sales. I don't think SW can be overshipped, so I think it lines up well with the HW also being shipped flat YoY. Sure Sony might have shipped a few 100k or so extra for the 100m, but I wouldn't really call it overshipped.

Good point and I definitely agree.  There's only so much Sony can do to try to convince people to take extra stock.  Retailers aren't just going to have boxes upon boxes laying around, unless they are ramping up for Xmas, which definitely wasn't the case.  And I really don't see Sony worrying about that at this point.  Would it really matter if they announced 100M shipped then, or had to announce it just a week or so later?  I don't think so.

It's just a slow time of the year.  People are saving up for Xmas, where they can get the PS4 for $199.  And the amount of gamers who will buy it for $299 is just reaching a saturation point.
