PS4/XBO/NS - 2018 vs. 2019 - Week 52 Numbers Added; Final 2019 Totals

Just posted the early Week 38 numbers (Be sure to thank @trunkswd when you can). The Nintendo Switch Lite is finally here and the results did not disappoint. With almost 600,000 units sold this week, the Nintendo Switch just tacked on its biggest week of the year so far and jump-charges its YoY lead up to 1.7 million units. Now comes the real test, the Switch's legs and baseline AFTER the launch. The next 7 weeks should be see the 2019 add to its lead over 2018, considerably and significantly, thanks to the Switch Lite still being fresh + key releases such as Dragon Quest XI S and Luigi's Mansion 3. Then, Week 46 is where it REALLY gets interesting. Last year, Week 46 saw the release of Pokemon Let's Go Pikachu/Eevee. This year, it will be Pokemon Sword/Shield. Even with these games being the actual, legitimate 8th generation, the are questions as to whether or not the boost for hardware will be as significant as it was last year due to a good chunk of the Pokemon fan base already being on the Switch thanks to Let's Go. After that, there's Black Friday. Last year, it was Week 47. This year, it's Week 48. So, we should expect a massive loss and then a massive win for 2019 in those two weeks. Then comes the month of December, which will be 2019's biggest challenge without question. Will Sword/Shield + the Switch Lite be enough to match up against last year's killer combo of Let's Go + Super Smash Bros. Ultimate? It could go either way. With the Switch Lite being priced at a very affordable $200, I can easily see parents jumping all over that model to gift wrap and put under the Christmas tree for their kid(s). If Nintendo stocks that model properly, (which according to @ZhugeEX, they seem to be doing, "Initial shipment in the US is very large, primarily to cover the early holiday period but also to beat the potential tariffs." - His Twitter, Sept. 24, 2019), and with the right marketing, I think the Switch has the potential to pull in the biggest numbers for a holiday season that we have seen in a very long time. We could be looking at prime Wii/DS holiday levels. But, I could also be setting my hopes & expectations way too high. It's very tough to beat Smash Bros. + the 1st Pokemon games on a system, and. It will be extremely interesting to watch.
