The idea of catering to audience differences is probably a factor in the success: let's be real the PS4 Xbox1 and PC cater to a lot of the same stuff, and people who aren't getting what they want elsewhere are probably jumping for the Switch.
I'm reminded of a few Jim Sterling comments about starving markets. Games like Mario O, Octopath, Mario Rabbids, and the like do a lot for people not happy with shooters and sports. Heck, imagine the interest that a new big Horror title might do on the Switch, for example.
It's also possible that Nintendo is getting a boost from the issues on Steam: taking over as the top Indie platform.
Though I'll fully admit I am not the biggest Indie expert, and I'd probably chop it up to rarer game types if I was the head of Nintendo
The Democratic Nintendo fan....is that a paradox? I'm fond of one of the more conservative companies in the industry, but I vote Liberally and view myself that way 90% of the time?
