To correct the OP, the retailer hasn't been cut out of the deal on Steam. Steam is the retailer, and they take a that is often much larger than that taken by Best Buy.

To correct the thread in general - it makes no difference who sets the prices on Steam. It is a fact that the prices are higher on average, and that's all that matters in the context of the OP.
