2019 would have been a better year for XB2 imo

No. Considering how similar PS and Xbox consoles to each other nowadays, releasing one year in advance would result in making inferior product. And the minute MS announced next gen Xbox for 2019 release, Sony would have come out and teased PS5 and how much better it is. Not to mention, that now it is confirmed that both consoles will use AMD's new RDNA architecture which is the biggest improvement since GCN that launched in 2012. Using this architecture would simply be not possible in 2019 product.

Makes sense since last year held pretty strong on hardware sales especially in the first half of 2018 due to the massive surge of Fortnite when it should of been a decent decline leading to a bigger drop all at once this year.

Fortnite is free to play on Switch and PS4. On XB1 you have to be subbed to Gold. So that argument of Fortnite driving 2018 sales doesn't hold water.

It's not about free to play or not even. I don't remember Xbox having some kind of Fortnite promotion last year that could potentially boost it's sales over PS4 or Switch. And without such promotion, Fortnite is set to have the same effect in terms of sales on each platform it is on.
