As a spanish, i can tell Nintendo success here has always been associated to handhelds with the exception of the Wii. Pokemon historically was the main reason Nintendo became popular here. Pokemon introduced Mario, Mario Kart and Zelda to a whole new generation. It was the oppoiste to what happened in Japan and US, where Mario and Zelda had already a story of success and brand recognition. That explains too why Smash Bros is not as popular here as in US and Japan. Zelda was not particularly succesful here either but recent Zelda's and mostly thanks to BOTW have reached Mario levels of recognition too. Now, Switch is helping even more than Wii did, to introduce some franchises here to grow up that were already succesful elsewhere. So yes, Switch as a handheld is one of the main reasons of the success here, and i can anticipate the next Pokemon will be the best selling Nintnedo game here on Switch, and the Lite is going to sell a lot.
