Whats the problem? Companies have to be protective of their IPs/trademarks. Otherwise loss of value and recorgnition.

"Fan"games.  If you d be a fan, you d respect their right to protect their property.

It's certainly within the rights of a company to protect their property but the idea that a well-made fan project will result in a loss of value or recognition is generally untrue and, in most cases, probably the opposite.  We have examples like the Elder Scrolls and Fallout right in front of us, where fan-made content has only increased the value of the IP and big fan projects keep people coming back.  Fallout has some absolutely massive fan projects coming up, like Fallout: Cascadia and Fallout: Miami, which a lot of people are excited about.
