Despite Bernie calling himself a democratic socialist, neither he nor the other democratic candidates actually stand for socialist policies.

So no they aren't running on socialism.

So I should not call a socialist the guy who calls himself a socialist. Gotcha. Venezuela here we come.

More like Western Europe, here we come.

Seriously, Bernie Sanders policies are considered socialism in the US due to their right wing standards (Even the democrats would be considered as center-right in Europe, with the Republicans as right wing), but would be more like Social Democratic politics in Europe, while Warren would be more like a Green politician (mostly social democratic, but with more ecologic concerns). Inslee and Booker are more like Nordic Green (green policies, but less on social democratic policies). Neither of them all get's nearly close enough to be considered to the leftist parties (which are in general democratic socialists), let alone communist parties.

Most of the rest of the candidates would fit well into Christian Democratic or Conservative parties in Europe. Some would rather fit into liberal parties instead (Liberal in Europe means the economy is deregulated, not that they want to spend much - quite the contrary often), but not many.

Republicans, by contrast, would be either Liberal, Christian Democratic or Conservative (moderate Republicans) or Eurosceptic (The more hardline Republicans).
