Bioware - When you think your game is ready for release, always delay six months to keep cooking. Then, continue to support the game adequately with additional content, if such is expected (even if not explicitly stated, gamers generally know what games to expect substantial content updates for).
Bethesda Game Studios - When you think your game is ready for release, always delay twelve months to keep cooking.
Activision - Since you only want wholly owned stuff, buy somebody that's working on some interesting new IP that could benefit from your deep pockets.
