I get the timed modes.  Matter of fact, I'm probably one of the few people who never complained about Salmon Run not being available all the time.  But killing Splatfest doesn't make anything feel special.  Instead it just kinda makes it feel like the game's about to die.

Well, its just a theory after all.Plus, I dont think anyone at Nintendo wants to get stuck doing Splatfest for years on end instead of doing a new Splatoon game or just another game.
