As I've said before, Gamefreak have always been a handheld developer, and their games have usually been pretty low-end when it came to the graphics capabilities of the hardware. The only way Gen 8 was going to look on par with first party Switch releases was if another developer like Monoliftsoft helped develop the engine and graphics. I'm still disappointed nothing like that happened, but for their first big new HD game it's about as good as it be be expected to get given Gamefreak's lackluster graphical pedigree.
