Random encounters are great.

I never thought this was an unpopular opinion until the last year or so it seems that people on the net have come to hate games with them.

I enjoy the suspense of not knowing what Pokemon is going to jump out at me from the grass, or what monster I'll have to fight in Octopath/Dragon Quest. It doesn't make or break the game for me, but I like them. (The way encounters are handled in Earthbound/DQXI is my favourite though; with enemies on the overworld, but with a semi-random element in that more than one spawn in battle)
