Damn, I didn't think of that. Could well be, I know Jack Ma of Alibaba is pushing for western divisions to have a 996. Maybe tencent are pushing this onto Epic mamagment although it stilk doesn't explain Rockstar, Bioware etc etc. 

No, that's all easily explained by not having unions and letting themselves getting exploited from here to infinity
