But the problem is we have no idea what the PS5 is and switch is competing with PS4, not 5. I was only discussing the possibility of PS5 failing or succeeding. PS3 was a failure in any way except sales. 

Ok. Then we go for a simpler analysis, 3 of 4 playstation consoles have been major success. So the odds are much higher for another success than to failure. To pretend that Sony fails after they succeed as anything of a trend would be to ignore that PS1 was a success or that PS2 was an even bigger success.

Also let's just sink for a moment that PS3 wasn't the fruit of lenience or arrogance, they just gone full power on improving everything that PS2 had. We can certainly say after fact that it was a bad decision to put BD drives that would make the console cost so much (but PS1 and PS2 at the time of their release had drives that were expensive, while the consoles were cheaper then the CDs and DVD players of the time) or that Cell was to alien (still PS1 and PS2 also had architecture and chips that weren't off-the-shelf) we also can criticize the price point even if Sony was eating 200-300 USD at launch depending on the model you look with probably bad perception of how much the price would drop after 1-2 years. Also you can't fault Sony for after 2 generations of good sales thinking they would keep selling good, which you accepted they did sell good even if about 1/2 of what they sold in PS2.
