I think that VR could actually become much more important as we enter the streaming era.
When those services are established and the kinks worked out it will be very tempting for people to jump ship from Sony, Nintendo or Microsoft to Stadia or other streaming option when they can provide comparable experiences for no up front cost.
The thing that will keep people on-board with any platform will be the differentiaters, 1 of these is obviously exclusive games, another could be VR.
Once you've spent 2 or 3 hundred quid on a VR set which is tied to a platform, you'll be less likely to move over to the competition whenever they have a deal on their monthly subscription. Indeed, going forward, VR may be the only hardware investment required for any platform (as well as controllers in some cases I guess), as eventually all players will have a streaming solution.
